The salient expansion trend of the house of worship market is undergoing a significant structural change. The megachurch trend that blossomed in the 1990s and early 2000s emerged from the economic crisis that began in 2007 to reveal a new direction: the multisite worship facility concept. The idea of building several smaller satellite campuses that still have the technological and other resources of a large church but that help project the church on a local and even regional basis has been found to increase membership and attendance and foster a greater sense of community. This sea change in infrastructure approach is an adaptation to a changing economic landscape for houses of worship. It also represents another corner that houses of worship AV and IT managers have to employ as they adapt AV technology for their needs.
