Purchased in a state of disrepair and decline in 1975 by Henry Taylor and Sam Green, Arizona’s Weatherford Hotel avoided demolition to become a prominent and historic building in the city of Flagstaff. More than 100 years old, the now iconic and historic hotel has undergone continual renovation and restoration and is now famous for dropping a six-foot-tall, 70-pound pine cone to usher in the new year ever New Year’s Eve.
Improving the spectacular Pine Cone Drop as well as a desire to upgrade the hotel’s audio distribution and lighting systems for complete property-wide integration led the Weatherford owners to hire system integrator, AVDomotics. Aiming to bring a modern element to the historic hotel, AVDomotics’ brief included video distribution and indoor LED lighting in the hotel’s Exchange Pub as well as implementation of programmable, color-changing LEDs on the Pine Cone, eaves and the cupola, while providing the scalability to add more lighting annually.
